The dog that never barked

We all have different attributes that label who we are. Life is not only about existing; it’s also about living out your purpose and actually living it to the fullest. Hey, let me tell you a little experience I had.

I remember going to my rural areas and every day that I woke up there was this dog that never seemed to do anything.

It would always sleep by the front pooch day in day out unless it was time to eat. It never liked going to hunt infact whenever the other dogs would rush outside to go chase little wild animals it would just stay behind and lazily move around the house.

Furthermore, whenever you would try to call it whilst it’s asleep, it had a tendency to look up and just growl for a second then go right back to sleep.

It was as if it was just waiting to die. At one point I felt sorry for the dog because it seemed like it was just born to do nothing it seems.

So I asked one of my cousins and he said “The dog used to be very active and was among the strongest in the pack when it came to fighting wild animals but it took only one fight against a lion to discourage it for its entire life.

It was bitten badly, almost got teared to bits and had a very large and dreadful scar on its head.

And ever since then it has lived a mediocre life. At the moment it cannot even bark at anyone or anything”. I stood there feeling sad for the dog. One can imagine the pain it had gone through.

As I looked at the dog day by day I began to imagine how many people out there are just like this poor dog.

People who once had this fire in them, people who were going for their dreams and were assured of it, people who were once relentless, people who seemed like they were going to fly over anything and flourish only to get extinguished by an unfortunate circumstance.

I began to realise that at times, we need to know how to get back up when life knocks us down.

Just like this dog, it never thought for one moment that it was going to be viciously harassed by a wild animal let alone a lion.

It points to the fact that there are lions in our life who prowl to discourage us from living our lives to the fullest but should we let them? I totally disagree.

For you see, you were given a purpose on this earth, a purpose that will give you a sense of peace.

The lion will always want to take that purpose out of you in any way it can and if it succeeds, just like the dog you will never ever find any reason to bark.

Always remember that your being here on earth proves that you should be enjoyed and should enjoy as well.

If you have faced the lion the lion and you feel very much discouraged then don’t go down easily for it is in our greatest failure that our greatest victory arises. So get back up again and begin to work your way back to where you belong.

As for the lonely dog, about a few days of conversing with my cousin he agreed to get the dog back on its feet and running.

He would wake up early in the morning and go for a jog with dog, he would call the dog every now and again, he would even become serious with taking the dog hunting as well and in no time the dog was back on its feet ready to face another day and conquer it.

I soon realised that all it needed was a little fire to get back up again. When it died a few years later, it died having accomplished, having chosen to fight and not to look down upon itself.

You too can do the same and if you were once brought down, have people around you who will bring back that fire because you were made for a purpose…
