While Continental Bright Stars Academy dominated at an Independence tournament held at Ngoni Stadium in Norton last week, it was their player, 12-year-old midfielder Tawananyasha “Pogba” Museba, who caught the eye with a performance that belied his age.

Former Warriors gaffer Wieslaw Grabowski spoke highly of the boy.

“When you see the boy playing, you can see that he has got rare talent and that he is the one to watch. Some of the things he does are way beyond his age,” said the former Darryn T coach.

“But what is important is how these boys are developing in terms of technique and mental strength.”

Norton-based junior football coach, Cephas Bhobho, said he was indebted to Grabowski, who has been playing a crucial role in developing youth footballers’ talent.

The veteran coach has been working with Bhobho’s Continental Bright Stars Soccer Academy, but sometimes train at Alex Sports Club in Harare.

“Coach Grabowski is renowned for technical expertise and we are glad he has taken his time to assist us whenever he can,” Bhobho said.

“Grabowski has been instrumental in shaping young talent. His dedication and guidance have contributed significantly to the academy’s success.”

Bhobho said the Independence tournament was a success.

“We had a great time at the tournament and our players did well,” said Bhobho. “My gratitude goes to the parents who have been very supportive. Norton Town Council’s support in granting us access to Ngoni Stadium has also been invaluable.”

Continental Bright Academy are now bracing for Saturday’s Big Stuff Invitational tournament at Old Mutual Sports Club.

Although there is still no Premier Soccer League team in Norton, the town has produced a number of stars, including the Dynamos pair of Emmanuel Jalai and Valentine Kadonzvo.

Ngezi Platinum Stars defender Kudzai Chigwida, CAPS United midfielder Eric Manokore and former FC Platinum right back Raphael Muduviwa are some of the players who grew up in Norton.

Former Zimbabwe women’s national team striker Rutendo “Madzimai” Makore also hails from the town.
