SOUTH Africa-based actor Chrispen Nyathi has set in motion plans to assist young and talented local actors who want to be part of Mzansi’s television and film industry.

The Zimbabwe-born artiste is well-known for playing the role of Pastor Charleston Ncube in the Mzansi Magic drama “DiepCity”.

For his outstanding performance, Nyathi won the Viewer’s Choice Award for the best actor at the 2021 Royalty Soapie Awards.

The gifted actor said he is impressed by the potential shown by budding local actors and wishes to boost their career opportunities.

In an interview with The Sunday Mail Society, Nyathi said he had already started working on the travel modalities.

“Right now, I am working tirelessly with my sponsor to facilitate some funds required for the actors to travel from Zimbabwe to South Africa. I believe by the end of this year, I will have assisted at least 20 people,” said Nyathi.

The Mzansi-based actor said he has been monitoring some of the young talents but was equally open to recommendations.

“I do not expect to get any monetary gain from this gesture. Consider this to be part of my philanthropic work. I am simply assisting my fellow countrymen. I believe some of the guys have potential to go far with the right support,” said Nyathi.

The two-time Royalty Soapie Award winner urged actors to always aim higher.

“I was groomed in Zimbabwe and want to help others grow, too. My dream is one day to see many of our Zimbabwean actors showcasing their talents at grand stages like Hollywood or even Bollywood. At present, we have several Zimbabwean actors who are doing great in the South African film industry.”

Nyathi was last year honoured as an Outstanding Ambassador at the Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards.
