My working experience at Zimpapers

The Sunday Mail

Letwin Rufaro Tsiga L6, Queen Elizabeth
Taking a job on top of my studies as an H-Metro journalist this holiday molded me into a better responsible lady. It was quite a privilege to be exposed to a working environment like the newsroom.
I have developed better time management because I had to complete every daily task that was expected of me and there were deadlines to meet.

This meant that I had to skip some fun activities so as to finish my responsibilities. I was one of the people who mistakenly believed that only one perfect career exists for each individual thus I believed that journalism is meant for students doing Arts subjects and I feared that I won’t be good at it.

But during my working experience with School on the Shop Floor, I learnt that it’s a matter of committing oneself, doing what you do with all your might. I was also motivated by The Sunday Mail Bridge’s Charles Mushinga who did commercial subjects at A level as well and Ceasar Zvayi, the Herald Editor, who did science subjects at A level.

I worked with adults who offered me support, guidance, motivation and assistance. Sometimes I even got extra tasks to do at home. With this opportunity I managed to write two articles that were published in H-Metro with the help of my workmate Mathew Masinge.

My family supported me to the fullest but of course critics were there from some people who didn’t understand what this was all about.

For me this was a golden opportunity of a lifetime, given the platform to prove what you are worth. I really enjoyed to work as a news reporter especially with the Entertainment reporters Mathew Masinge, Nyasha Kada and Chipo Sabeta. I can say that if given the opportunity to continue this can prepare me for life after school. I just hope to work with Zimpapers once again on my holiday break after writing my A level final exams.
