The Epworth/Mabvuku/Tafara District held their district merit awards prize giving ceremony at Donybrook Primary School in Mabvuku.

This year’s district prize giving cemerony was a great day for us as the district was celebrating 10 years of awarding those who performed greatly in Education, Sports, Arts and cultural disciplines.

All the schools in the district came and went back home with something in their hands.

But for Mabvuku High School, it was the year of blessings as the school scooped more awards than any school in the district, hence being the most outstanding school in the district.

It had the best A-level results in the district as it had 91 percent pass rate with four of its students awarded for having 15 points at A-Level examinations which were written last year.

The best student at Mabvuku High was Wellington Jack with 20 points in the commercial area, whilst Mellinda Nyakudanga had 15 points in her Arts subjects whilst three other students where awarded for having 15 points.

This shows that Mabvuku High is one of the best schools in Harare as it was among the top 10 of schools with the highest A-level pass rate in the province.

The teachers where also awarded for their good work which produced quality results for the school last year.

Some teachers like Mr Chimbamu were awarded for guiding the chess team into greener pastures last year as the school was pronounced the best team in the district, producing players like Philip Jekera, who was promoted to the Zimbabwean Chess team for his age group. Mr Shiriyedewu, who is the teacher who made our under 20 football team a force to reckon when it comes to the game of soccer in the district, was awarded for his hard work. The former head girl of Mabvuku High Lavender Phiri was also awarded for being the best senior public speaker of the year with Hon Thabhani Dube being awarded as the best MP in the district for last year hence illuminating the fact that Mabvuku High School is indeed a little world of champions.

In the educational field, the teachers that were awarded are Mrs Mkoko J who had 13 learners with A’s at A-level Business studies, Mrs Kori who had 26 students with A’s in A-Level History, Mrs Dutiro T had 22 students with As in A-Level accounts, Mrs Chadehumbe N, who had 11 students with As in A level Literature in English, Mr Chiminya who had 28 learners with As in O-Level History, Mr Gwangwa had 11 learners with As in Physical Science, Mrs Makombe had 32 learners with A’s at O-Level and Mr F Sibanda, who produced 10 students with As in Mathematics.

This paints a picture which clearly shows that Mabvuku High School is one of the best schools in the province and nation at large. I always say , “don’t judge a book by its cover, try to uncover the cover so that you may discover what is inside the cover and the book may recover its value which it lost through the cover”.

This means that you should not undermine a school because of its location but by the results it produces. Our headmaster was also awarded and as a student and a headboy at the school I am proud of our achievements. Like my headgirl and former Speaker of Parliament Hon Mellisa Horiro always says,”if my school was a country then I will be called a patriot”.

The writer is also the Ward 20 honourable councillor and headboy of Mabvuku High School. Students, YOU CAN SEND YOUR ARTICLES THROUGH E-MAIL, FACEBOOK, WHATSAPP or TEXT.
