HOW time flies, this is already the 10th instalment of this column which covers sporting activities from various religions.
What an exciting and blessed journey it has been.
A lot of feedback has been coming from our valuable readers from the Anglican Church, Apostolic Faith Mission of Zimbabwe, Church of Christ Ministries, the Roman Catholic of Chitungwiza, New life Ministries and the Methodist Church of Zimbabwe.
We pledge to address the issues brought up. Like mentioned before, this column is open to every church and every religion so expect more coverage of sporting activities from those of the Muslim faith, Rastafarians, traditional believers and those from the Nyau religion.
Last Saturday it was the Bishop’s Cup day in the Harare Anglican Diocese League at Greendale Sports Club where All Saints Chitungwiza lifted the prestigious trophy in gruelling style.
They beat Glen Norah 2-1 in an exciting final while St Paul’s Highfield claimed third place after dismissing St Luke’s Mufakose in the third and fourth play-off.
Lenny Makankula scored a brace for All Saints Chitungwiza who capped a fine season in style.
The Harare Anglican Diocese League Super 8 tournament is on the cards in the next two weeks according to the League’s secretary Mr Tawanda Mutemererwa.
“We had a nice time at the Bishop’s Cup, it was a day worth remembering. There was vast talent on display.
“Look out for the looming Super 8 Cup,” wrote Mr Mutemererwa.
The Roman Catholic of Chitungwiza have their Family Fun and Sports Day at Seke 6 High School this weekend. Read this column next Sunday for the outcome.
Last week, we dwelt much on the changed lifestyle of former boxing champion Arifonso Zvenyika who is now a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Well, the two-time Commonwealth champion expressed shock at the massive comments he received from people who never believed he would change.
“My brother, a lot of people cannot believe that Zvenyika is now a Christian. They are skeptical but I understand because they think with such a tainted past God cannot accept me.
“God said bring all your sins unto me and I will clean them. He has cleaned me and I hope people can believe in the power of God,” said Zvenyika when this columnist bumped into the legend at a boxing function in Harare during the week. Sports personalities who have given their life to Jesus should feel free to contact us and give their testimonies.
It can inspire others, inspiration is key in religion.
Word has reached us that there is a Rastafarian backed soccer team from Mufakose that is causing waves in a Harare semi professional league.
We also hear that a number of footballers and coaches are now entrusting their sporting destiny in the hands of Madzibabas from various apostolic churches.
Their belief is that results are determined “kumasowe” and without “muteuro”, chances of winning a football match are next to none.
