RURAL Development, Promotion and Preservation of National Culture and Heritage Minister, Abednico Ncube has said Zimbabwe remains committed to working in partnership with other countries in promoting development.
Minister Ncube said this at a reception organised for University of Wales students who were in the country last week for a cultural exchange programme.
Love Zimbabwe Charity, a Welsh based organisation that supports community projects in Zimbabwe, facilitated the visit. The organisation’s programmes promote sustainable living through the natural environment and the African culture.
In a speech read on his behalf by the acting permanent secretary in his ministry, Mr Farai Mabhena, the minister said culture cuts across race, religion, gender and politics.
“It is important to have cultural exchange programmes that will foster a good relationship between Zimbabwe, the Wales and other nations. The minister urged Zimbabweans to cherish and uphold ubuntu for the betterment of the nation.
Love Zimbabwe Charity founder, Mrs Martha Musonza-Holman said they have identified what the community needs and are working with the locals to alleviate poverty.
She said her organisation supports community projects in Wales and Zimbabwe.
“The idea is to link students from Wales and Zimbabwe for cultural exchange.
“As part of the programme, the visiting students will tour a number of cultural and political institutions in and around Harare to have a better understanding of the country,” Mrs Musonza-Holman said.
She said the visit will help in community development issues.
“The tourism sector is also set to benefit as we believe that this programme will help portray the positive things that are happening in Zimbabwe to the world. At the same time, it will strengthen the relationship between the two countries,” she added.
She said they established Art and Craft market stalls in United Kingdom where Zimbabwean products are sold in line with property rights and international standards.
Also in attendance at the event were representatives from The National Museums and Monuments, National Art Gallery of Zimbabwe, Tsoro Arts Centre Group of Marimba and St Giles School Band.
