The country’s war veterans should unite and make efforts to venture into business, particularly in mining and agriculture, in order to support President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s vision of creating an upper middle-income economy by 2030, a senior Zanu-PF official has said.
The party’s national deputy political commissar, Cde Omega Hungwe, said the Zanu-PF would readily assist those who wanted to explore the various opportunities available to them.
Speaking at belated celebrations held in the capital yesterday for President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s victory during last year’s election, Cde Hungwe said there was need to rally behind the party’s First Secretary.
“As war veterans, let us engage in small businesses as groups of five or 10, and if you do not know where to start, seek assistance from the leadership.
“Let us give our President another chance in 2023 because it was not easy changing corrupt leadership back in 2017, so let us vote for President ED and all his leadership,” she said.
Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) chairperson for Harare province Cde Hoyini Bhila similarly urged veterans of the liberation struggle to form business cooperatives.
“We should always bear in mind that all the war veterans associations are one and there should be no division amongst us, and as the chairperson and my board, we are in agreement with the resolutions passed here. President ED shall be the 2023 candidate. Let us support him,” he said.
Minister of State for Harare Provincial Affairs Oliver Chidawu, who was guest of honour, indicated that President Mnangagwa deserves support as a visionary leader.
The party, he said, should unite and fight corruption.
“For the first time, we now have a fiscal surplus, which has never happened before. . .” he said.
