VaShagare: Wicknel: Open thy wallet & shut thy mouth

The Sunday Mail

IT’S with a heavy heart that I aim my pen at big Wicknel Chivayo again.

However, someone has to tell the guy some truth, much to his annoyance and the benefit of some clowns who will call the young businessman with tips on who Va Shagare is.

Here we go …

Mighty Warriors coach Shadreck Mlauzi was in the press this past week expressing worry over delays in kick starting preparations for next month’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Tanzania.

Quite understandable.

Also in the press was Chivayo as he delivered the car he ‘bought’ for Pasuwa and unveiled the one he ‘purchased’ for Mlauzi.

The Zifa benefactor then reached premature oral ejaculation when he castigated Mlauzi for going public with his worry at a time when himself and Zifa president Phillip Chiyangwa had promised to see to it that the girls got into camp.

Quite bewildering.

Look no matter how much Sir Wicknel makes you want to puke there is no denying that his money is oiling our local game, we are better with it.

However, his mouth is threatening to undo some of that good work.

Chivayo is beginning to talk about technical issues when his brief should be financial.

Why would Sir Wicknel castigate Mlauzi for expressing a genuine concern?

He slammed the Mighty Warriors gaffer in what capacity?

A sponsor?

Well sponsors have no right talking about technical matters no matter how big they are, no matter how big their wallets.

It’s just not on!

“I was a bit disappointed that the coach was complaining bitterly even when two businessmen had said funds were being put in place for their training camp…

“I have said I am going to look after them (national coaches) but I am worried that there is an element of doubt on the part of the women’s coach,” Chivayo was quoted as saying.

Well, well Sir Wicknel you are out of order.

Businessmen are not God, I know plenty of businesspeople who lie a lot.

Kindly open your purse and shut your mouth as far as technical issues are concerned.

Money can buy you almost anything but one of the few things it cannot get you is the right to reprimand a national team coach.

Have you ever coached football?

Do you know what and how long it takes to prepare a team for such an important assignment?

With just three weeks before the Mighty Warriors begin their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign against Tanzania the team’s coach had every reason to be worried.

Good people of God there is always a tendency for these guys with deep pockets to seek to direct everything just because they have money.

Moses “Bambo” Chunga once told Cuthbert Chitima to go to hell when the then rich Gunners owner sought to influence team selection.

Yours truly won’t tell Chivayo to go to hell, not just yet.

He is a young guy, he means well.

All he needs is some hand holding.

The Kabwe Warriors hell

Zambian outfit Kabwe Warriors had a nightmare at the hands of Dynamos and this was not only restricted to the pitch.

The visitors, who lost 0-2 to DeMbare, complained bitterly about their stay at a waterless Mubaiwa hotel, the food was bad and the beds “the worst we have ever seen.”

And you can imagine their delight when Caps United moved in and housed them at some Harare hotel.

Kabwe Warriors coach Mohammed Fahti waxed lyrical about the hospitality they received from Makepekepe.

But it’s not that Caps United broke the bank to make Kabwe’s stay comfortable, no.

They just tried their best under difficult circumstances.

The same cannot be said about yours truly’s DeMbare.

Va Shagare exits the scene!
