Understanding the importance of prayer

My Perspective

THIS week our topic emphasises the importance of prayer and why we all need to live a life of prayer.
According to the Bible we should “Be anxious of nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanks giving, let your requests be made known to God”. (Phillippians 4:6)
It is a proven fact that prayer kills anxiety and all diseases that come with it. Many a time in the same book of life we see our Lord Jesus withdrawing from the multitude to be alone in prayer with his father.
Jesus with all his authority still had to pray. To live victoriously we ought to separate from the people and spend time with our creator in communion with him.
Prayer is not a one way street neither is it a monologue but instead it is a dialogue as well as it is our tool of communication and spiritual warfare.
As we make our requests known to him he answers yes or no and sometimes we have to be patient and wait on the Lord even as we see Sarah receiving her blessing after 90 years in Genesis 21:2.
Though it may seem like forever God always answers prayer at his appointed time. Hence why it is important to listen and discern.
It is God’s desire that we spend more time with him consulting on issues of our daily lives.
Unfortunately we rely more on our friends’ advice. We tend to consult our peers instead of seeking advice from the Almighty whom we know is omnipresent and omnipotent and surely has every answer and solution to our daily woes.
We usually go into prayer after coming to a conclusion and want his endorsement. This is an error, we must ask God for direction and the route to take. Him allowing us to take our own way does not mean it’s the best possible route. I am not saying we should not get good wise counsel.
We must consult God first for instruction, which He will freely give or He might even direct us to the place of instruction. (Acts 9:3-16)
It is only when we engage in prayer that the Lord reveals his mysteries to us pertaining our personal lives or as a nation. (Jeremiah 33:3) At times God will not reveal a mystery about our destinies through prophets because he simply what’s us to pray.
The prophet must confirm what God has already revealed to us in prayer. Prayerful people are easily located by favour and God’s blessing. When we spend more time with God we build spiritual stamina, confidence and faith. With these our battles are won and visions come to fruition.
What the Lord has deposited in our spirit will surely manifest. It is only through prayer that a man’s ways can be changed.
Whatever we want for or from our loved ones we must consult the potter not the clay. It is God alone that can mold and fashion the hearts of man.
Continue to pray for your destiny and that of your family and God will bring it to pass.
Do it with joy and thanksgiving not complaining all the time. James the Apostle and the brother of the Lord Jesus Christ writing to the Church said, “You receive not because you ask amiss that you may consume it upon your lusts.”
I pray that the Holy Spirit teaches you how to pray and that he removes that which causes you to slumber in prayer. The Lord bless you and your family. (Psalm 115:14)
