All roads led to Tsanzaguru Primary School for the school’s Speech and Prize Giving Day earlier this month. The theme for the day was ‘Competitive performance  for enviable results’ attracting people from all walks of life.

Amongst the invited guests there was The Honourable Member of Parliament Mrs Lucia Chitura, the Ministry of Education Schools Inspector  Mrs Elizabeth Chakanyuka, representatives from 32 Infantry Batalion ,Old Students of Tsanzaguru Primary School represented by their chairman Mr Stanley Makombe.

The late founding Headmaster of the school, Mr Mukosera was represented by his wife and son. Business partners of the school that graced the occasion included Steward Bank, Champions Insurance and Econet Wireless.

A clear sky and friendly weather welcomed the events of the day as the drum majorettes led the guests to the venue. The events kicked off with the school choir meticulously leading the gathering in singing the National Anthem.

Pastor Makombe led the devotion. All the speakers explained the importance of education and the need for all stakeholders to contribute in developing the school. Mrs Chakanyuka encouraged the parents to pay their children’s fees and monitor their learning process.

A notable highlight was the presence of Trevor Dongo who mesmerised the crowds with his wonderful performance especially with the song Handisikumira which is a song of encouragement to us students to never quit or give up from attaining our desired goals. The Honourable Chitura said “It is important for parents to support their children’s education by paying fees.

Students also presented poems, drama, percussion band, choir and also our traditional dance group. Business stakeholder sponsored prizes in both academic and sports ranging from satchels from Steward Bank, text books from CBZ bank and also individuals who sponsored prizes in cash who include Mr Stanley Makombe, Mr Taurai Khupe and the Honourable L Chitura. Indeed hard work surely pays

Top among the peak of activities of the day was the launch of Tsanzaguru Primary School Old Students Association with Mr Stanley Makombe as the first chairman. The launch of the association is a major development in the history of the school.

The association’s secretary Mr Taurai Khupe said “there is need for the association to instil a sense of belonging in the former students for the benefit of the school and the community”. The association has already started projects to develop the school.

Also seven students were awarded scholarships by Honourable Chitura and  Mr Stanley Makombe. In support of the event and awareness of the importance of trees, Nyaradzo Funeral Services donated 48 tree seedlings which were planted to mark the birth of the Old Students Association. At the end of the day our Headmaster Mr Mesheck Magoso said “it was a great day and thanked everyone for the support rendered.

To me on this day I learnt that perseverance pays, and I want to be like these former students who are coming back to their old school, just like what the old ones used to say “Ziva kwawakabva.”
