Toast to unsung heroines

Motherhood is not a hobby, it is a calling.

You are made a mother by the Creator, who gives you the heart, the will, power, means and ability.

Thus, it is more than a responsibility.

Mothers are not ashamed of their children, never mind the circumstances.

In addition to meeting the day-to-day needs of their offspring, they unconditionally shelter them from danger.

One famous writer once said, “Everyone wants to save the Earth; nobody wants to help mum do the dishes.”

So when you are a mother at home, everything you do alternates between serving and saving.

A mother is the engine of the house and is the energy behind a lot of success stories.

However, the effort is not publicly acknowledged.

People tend to celebrate everything else, forgetting the much-wounded hands that made them.

One thing for certain: despite appearing seemingly intriguing and glamorous, the mother’s role is seldom that.

It is full of agony.

The good thing though is this loving lot is not worried about popularity, it only cares about consistently supporting the family.

One can never have a soft heart for orphans if she does not care for her own children. A proper mother starts by tending to her family before extending her love and affection elsewhere.

If I were to choose one word to describe a mother, it would be ‘mystery’, for they are mysterious in every sense.

In some instances, they single-handedly accomplish tasks that would even be difficult for a team to achieve.

For instance, she can do the laundry, do the dishes, bathe the kids, pack her husband’s lunch box, sweep the house, buy groceries and attend to the needs of every child in a single day.

The situation is even worse for mothers that are also professionals.

They still have to take care of their domestic duties after a tiresome workday.

All of these sacrifices are the reason why the world has engineers, presidents, lawyers, pilots, doctors, entrepreneurs among other professionals that we celebrate.

A mother’s daily routine is part of her mysterious achievements.

If one is not of a strong heart, they will abandon their role.

We have seen mothers that have deserted their children.

This is because not every woman has the calling to be a mother.

Responsibilities associated with being a mother are not so usual and easy to get used to.

It is worse when infants are involved.

There is need to breastfeed, change diapers and to look out for any signs or signals of danger as infants cannot talk.

In cases of young adults, the duty can be difficult if the family has limited resources.

Many mothers are wounded and tired, but they are enduring, sweet, loving, persevering, amazing and remarkable regardless.

Motherhood is never for the faint-hearted.

Children do the unthinkable, but mothers should remain resolute in making sure they bring them to order at the same time instilling discipline in them.

Imagine a child tearing your sofa or your books, chewing remote batteries, breaking utensils or applying a whole bottle of petroleum jelly?

Special mothering tactics have to come into play in such scenarios.

In short, our mothers are our heroines.

A mother’s struggle does not start and end with pregnancy and labour, it carries on forever as long as the child is alive.

Mothers do not shirk their responsibility simply because their offspring now have a family of their own.

This is why they even follow up to make sure that their children’s marriages are in good shape.

A mother will always be a mother.

Someone should shout out loud — mothers are a blessing, mothers are heroines, mothers are angelic and mothers are a mystery.

Quote of the week: You are made a mother by the Creator, who gives you the heart, the will, the power, the means and the ability.
