VERSATILE Bulawayo-based house music artiste The Kasi Princess, or TKP, released a gospel single, “Pfugama Unamate”, which has not disappointed on the airwaves.
TKP, real name Sandisiwe Dube, is breaking new ground by doing gospel music with a house beat.
She said was humbled and excited that her song was being played on popular weekly gospel show Star FM Gospel Greats.
“My primary objective on this song was to encourage people to pray when challenges of this world press them. “This is amazing, and I promise that before I die I will drop an album,” said TKP.
The artiste said personal experiences led her to deviate from her usual genre and pen an inspirational gospel song.
“There was a time in my life when things were not moving, things were not well and everything was down. I just found myself singing the chorus of ‘Pfugama Unamate’.
“To me this song is a prayer and to see people relate to it, I feel humbled,” said the 24-year-old singer.
TKP said “Pfugama Unamate” was not her first gospel song, as she had already released four tracks which – unfortunately – did not make it big with fans.
“I have been doing gospel music here and there. If I am not mistaken I have released four songs and one is called ‘Baba Wethu’,” she said.
TKP said gospel music helped her convey inspirational messages to women and children.
“This world is not friendly, especially to women and children; they are vulnerable because they are delicate. I understand them and the desire to comfort them pushes me to write these songs.
“I want them to be healed with my songs. They should feel much better after listening to any of my gospel songs,” TKP said.
Asked if she would gospel music fulltime, TKP simply said “I love to make people happy, I like seeing people dancing and I believe that is my primary calling.”
TKP records with Afro Platinum Music, which operates in Zimbabwe and South Africa. Last year she was nominated in the Best House Music category at the Zimbabwe Music Awards.
