The right advice in ‘Marrying Right’

SENIOR lawyer and co-founder of Impact Christian Centre, Pastor Davison Kanokanga, is back with another book tailor-made for those contemplating taking the big step into marriage.
His previous writings like “Keeping Your Marriage Intact”, “Your Marriage Can Work”, “No Mountain Too High to Climb” and “The Divorce Proof Marriage” were geared towards those who have already exchanged nuptials.
The focus shifts in “Marry Right”, in which Pr Kanokanga eyes bachelors, spinsters, widows, widowers and divorcees who are considering marriage.
The six chapters deal with topics like “Before You Choose A Marriage Partner” and “Pre-Marital Sex”.
“After counselling so many couples, it became apparent to me that most of the marital problems that were presented to me by my counselees could be traced back to what either happened or did not happen before the couple got married,” he says.
Contradicting the thought of people searching for Mr or Ms Perfect, Pr Kanokanga in the first chapter gives the reader a reality check in terms of how to prepare oneself before they even meet a possible future spouse.
He raises questions that many people take lightly when they speak of seeking a marriage partner: “Is sex your motivation for marriage? Do you want to get married so as to change your social status?”
Pr Kanokanga advises people to get digging for information about a would-be partner by asking basic questions.
He warns that this business of “following your heart” can have disastrous consequences as people should make practical and realistic decisions when selecting a marriage partner.
With simple illustrations from life lessons of prominent individuals as well as Bible stories, Pr Kanokanga leads the reader to see the bigger picture of marriage.
He deals deftly with the consequences of pre-marital sex, which include sexually transmitted diseases and the spiritual battle brought by “soul ties”.
