Desire Ncube —
ONE writer once said obedience lies within the broader context of social psychology; it is a universal phenomenon and exists everywhere but has mainly often been overlooked and overshadowed by conformity.

Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe’s Pastor Kudakwashe Chiwashira seeks to separate the key components of obedience and eradicate the myths attached to it.

In “The Essence of obedience: The Blessing Factor”, Pr Chiwashira effectively communicates his ideas to readers in a simple but academic way.

The book’s relevance is found in the way people today are daily duped by religious people who blur the lines between obedience to God and obedience to church leaders.

Pr Chiwashira tackles issues like obedience, the cost of obedience and integrity.

He describes obedience as an individual’s behavioural response to authority. Pr Chiwashira asks under what conditions would a normal person obey authority when asked to perform actions that are contrary to their conscience and morals?

As he explores why ordinarily good people obey unjust commands, he explains what Biblical obedience and blessing are.

Pr Chiwashira attributes pride, fear and uncertainty as the basic foundations of disobedience disguised as obedience.

His position is that false knowledge and corrupted intelligence have seen this generation fall into the pit of intolerance to God, masking their disobedience as scepticism, caution and wisdom.

“Christians have to understand the Biblical definition of obedience and blessings, only then will they be able to move away from the sad reality and manipulation of obedience,” he asserts.
