We have only four months to go before the year ends. We should all aim to end 2015 on a high.

Some of you are enjoying the school holidays. Use this time to catch up and prepare for the final examinations coming at the end of next term.

Those of you in tertiary institutions are about to begin a new academic year. Start with a bang.

You could have received letters of termination of employment. Do not despair. God is in control and He is your source – so be encouraged and trust Him with your future.

This week and probably next week, we will talk about your heart … yes your heart. Proverbs 4:23 says, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” Some versions say, “Guard your heart with all diligence …”

The heart of something is usually defined as a core of something, the focal point upon which everything hinges. I am sure we all know that at a physical level the heart is a muscular organ located behind the sternum and between the lungs, its rhythmic contractions move blood throughout the whole body. Today we will focus on the physical aspect of the heart.

The heart is a key component of the human body. Your heart started beating 18 days after conception. That is amazing hey, to think that your heart has been pumping since you were still small. If your heart was to skip a beat you would probably die, or maybe even be injured for life

That is the case with most people that suffer from a stroke. To show just how important your heart is God made a protective rib cage then He placed your heart between the lungs to ensure that it will be very difficult for anyone or anything to get to your heart.

It is very concerning to note just how many young people are no longer concerned about their health. You find that these days people spend a significant amount of time watching television or playing computer games. Others spend all their time on social media on their phone or on their computer/laptop/tablet.

Those who are not doing the afore mentioned are given to substance abuse, drugs, alcohol, smoking, unhealthy sexual practices, bad sleeping habits to mention but a few. All of these activities have adverse effects towards the heart. In 1 Timothy 4 vs 8 the Apostle Paul talks about bodily exercise.

The fact that he mentions it shows how critical it is. I would like to challenge you to take your health seriously. When was the last time you intentionally exercised? Most people choose to bunk school sports and those who are employed or in tertiary education hardly give healthy living a thought.

Do you know that you are actually reducing your life span by not taking care of your heart or health?

Psalm 103 vs 1 says, “Bless the Lord, all my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.”

Your heart and internal organs are within you and they must bless the Lord. For some strange reason we forget that time is moving. For those who have left school most probably you still remember your school going years and how you used to do sports.

Probably you still see yourself as that teenager. Let me burst your bubble and say no you are not!

This could actually be due to an unhealthy body or heart. For the young ladies take care of your body today so that it will take care of you tomorrow.

Most of you would like to start a family after marriage and pregnancy affects your body some people face many complications as a result of an unhealthy lifestyle in their youth. Further to that (I had not intended to say this), it is disturbing to see how our sisters are using harmful substances to “enhance” their beauty.

First; you are beautiful. (Psalm 139:14 ).

Be proud of who you are, you are not a mistake. Guard your heart, keep it safe by living right. Exercise, eat right. You do not necessarily have to join a gym but you can take care of your heart by exercising good eating habits and a clean, healthy lifestyle.

Till next time, God bless.
