I pray all is well with you today.

Earlier this year, we dealt a little on purpose and I sensed a need to revisit that topic. My prayer is that by the end of this article you will be in a better position to discover your purpose.

In the Scriptures there are men like Isaac, Samson, John the Baptist and even Jesus who had prophecy accompanying their births. There are men like Gideon, Jeremiah, David and Isaiah who in their youth had a prophet or God speak to them.

They were told what their purpose/life assignment was.

Unfortunately, many of us are not so lucky and no voice from on high tells us directly what our life purpose is. Many people go through life knowing there is something special about them, but not sure exactly what it is.

You have a particular and unique purpose. You are not alive by mistake. You are here by design. You could have been born under difficult circumstances. For example, you could be a child born out of a rape encounter or maybe you are an orphan or part of a broken home.

This does not lessen the purpose you were created for. Young as you are, you could have made some very bad decisions but still that does not take away from your purpose. Look at Samson. Before he was born an angel appeared to his parents and his destiny was clear. The hand of God was upon him and everybody knew that he was the deliverer of Israel.

However, Samson threw away his good fortune in sexual sin and going against God’s will and law. I don’t know if there is anything more embarrassing than what happened to him. Humiliated and mocked by his enemies, betrayed by the woman he loved, his eyes were poked out, Israel was in captivity and all of his strength was gone.

But even for Samson, God pulled through.

If you are determined you will fulfil your purpose and assignment on Earth. To realise your purpose and assignment you have to be inquisitive and willing to put some time aside to analyse yourself, your surroundings and your life in general.

You have to be willing to sacrifice in order to unearth the hidden treasure inside. You must also be patient because sometimes even when you have discovered your purpose, its fulfilment might only manifest years down the line.

For instance, David was anointed king in 1 Samuel 16 when he was a teenager. But he only actually became king of all Israel when he was 37-years-old. There will also be many hurdles on your way to fulfilling your purpose.

Joseph’s brothers sold him into slavery. Then he was charged for a crime he did not commit and sentenced to a maximum security prison for life. All of this happened yet God had revealed to him in a dream who he would become a ruler.

Here are a few practical questions to help identify what your purpose in life might be:

What makes you happy? What do you enjoy doing? What are you naturally good at? What activities make you lose track of time? What makes you feel great about yourself? What areas do people usually ask for your help in? What were your favourite things to do in the past and what are your favourite things today? What are your values? What causes do you strongly connect with? If you had to teach something what would it be? God may not reveal your entire purpose at once.

Until next week, God bless.
