GOSPEL musician Kudzi Nyakudya says he has been inspired to pen two songs already on the market by allegations of sodomy levelled against him during a tour of South Africa last month.
While touring Durban and Johannesburg at the invitation of Reverend Tapera Chivaviro, social media went abuzz with allegations that Nyakudya sexually assaulted two teenage boys there.
As a gospel minister, the 30-year-old said he didn’t want to use newspapers to clear himself: so he waited for a voice from God.
In response Nyakudya put together two songs, “Ngatimukudzei Mwari”, which features Rev Chivaviro, and “Taura Neni Jesu”.
“We thank God with people who willingly seek to destroy other people, they sit down to craft lies for the simple reasons of destroying someone, and this give us strength to soldier on. Even Jesus, encountered such a thing. It’s not new, but it’s not easy,” Nyakudya said.
“We left for South Africa with Baba Manyeruke on Wednesday night, arrived there on Thursday night and we went straight for rehearsal for the Sunday show. Friday morning we went to Durban.
“While in Durban myself, Baba Manyeruke and Rev Chivaviro, we slept at Pavilion Hotel. On Saturday morning I and Baba Manyeruke went to the beach just to refresh and at 12 midday the Durban concert started,” Nyakudya said.
“And it was while we were at the concert venue that some pastors showed us the story that was on the social network, I was surprised just like anyone else who saw and read the story. The funniest thing is that the story suggested that I abused this boy on Tuesday while on that day I was still here (in Zimbabwe).
“I don’t know the motive of the one who fabricated the story but obviously it is to destroy me. I don’t remember having a beef or a misunderstanding with anyone in the industry and in my social and private life hence I am still in the dark as to who did it and for what purpose.”
He thanked fellow musicians who stood by him during his “dark moments”.
“Many artistes called me, I remember Baba Charamba was one of the first people to call me and he comforted me. Reverend Chivaviro, Baba Manyeruke, United Kingdom based musician, Timothy Ngwenya, Caro Nyakudya among others stood by me.
“I could have done something because what came to my mind is that who will believe that these are all lies, everyone will be pointing (fingers) at me. My family and fellow musicians were there for me that’s how the lyrics of Taura Neni Baba came.
“Now I am much stronger knowing that with Jesus even million accusations will not bring me down,” vowed Nyakudya.
In 2012 Nyakudya was arrested after he was caught pirating and selling his own music, which was in contravention of a contract he signed with Diamond Studios.
The charges were later withdrawn.
