DYNAMOS effectively survived relegation without having to kick a ball after Nichrut lost 2-0 against Herentals at Ascot yesterday.

With 40 points in the bag, DeMbare now have less pressure in their game against Triangle this afternoon as Nichrut, who occupy the last relegation slot, can only finish on 39 points if they win their last two games.

Nichrut’s chances of preserving their Premiership status were left precariously hanging after William Kapumha and Brighton Majarira’s goals propelled Herentals to victory.

The result leaves Nichrut on 33 points, four behind Chapungu who also succumbed to a 0-2 away defeat at ZPC Kariba.

Veteran striker Tawanda Nyamandwe and David Temwanjira were on target for ZPC Kariba who moved to 44 points and can now fancy their chances of a top eight finish.

However, Chapungu can preserve their top flight status and send Nichrut back to Division One if they win any of their remaining two games.

Nichrut’s last two matches are against Triangle at Gibbo and Dynamos at Ascot.

Nichrut supporters bemoaned the absence of injured coach John Nyikadzino for their troubles in the top tier.

Nyikadzino is on the side lines recovering from injuries sustained in a horrific car accident he was involved in on the Shurugwi-Gweru highway on his way to a league match against Harare City on September 26.

Stand in coach Michael Ngore was a stranded man at the final whistle and admitted it was now difficult to save the team from sinking.

“I don’t know where to start. All I can say is that we tried everything humanly possible but it was not our day.

“It is now tough to survive. We will keep on fighting but it is now out of our hands,” said Ngore.

Meanwhile, at Rufaro, Yadah Stars missed a second minute penalty but still gained a crucial point in a 0-0 against relegated Bulawayo City.

Ralph Matema hit the upright from the spot after speed merchant Leeroy Mavunga was fouled by Chrispen Ncube.

Walter Magaya’s side are now on 39 points, six ahead of Nichrut who occupy the last relegation slot.

Yadah now require just a point from their two remaining fixtures against Chapungu and Harare City.

Third placed Chicken Inn are now four points clear of fourth placed Triangle after drawing 1-1 against Black Rhinos at Luveve yesterday.
