Premier Soccer League title aspirants Ngezi Platinum Stars have sent their head coach Rodwell Dhlakama on forced leave nine days before resumption of the season, sparking speculation the former Young Warriors gaffer has been fired.

Dhlakama has been sent on indefinite leave by the Mhondoro-based side, with his first assistant Takesure Chiragwi taking over on an interim basis.

Club chief executive officer Nyasha Kadenge confirmed the latest development at the miners, who have an unbeaten start to the season.

“We can confirm that the Ngezi Platinum Stars Football Club Board has appointed Takesure Chiragwi as the interim head coach of Ngezi Platinum Stars FC with immediate effect,” said Kadenge in a statement.

“Before this appointment, Takesure Chiragwi was the first assistant coach of the club.

“Rodwell Dhlakama, the head coach, is on a mutually agreed indefinite leave of absence, which has given rise to the appointment of Chiragwi.

“We are confident that Takesure Chiragwi is well-equipped to lead the team as we resume PSL football action after the AFCON break.”

With only three matches played in the current season, Ngezi Platinum Stars are sitting on second position on the log table with seven points.

Dhlakama has guided Ngezi to two successive runners-up slots in the Chibuku Super Cup in 2019 and 2021.

In 2018, Ngezi also surprised many with their timing when they fired Tonderai Ndiraya with only four league games remaining.

The team was within touching distance of the Premiership title at the time.
