ZANU PF acting Political Commissar Cde Patrick Chinamasa has proposed changes to the party’s constitution, which, if approved, will expand the ruling party’s membership.

At a press conference in Harare on Thursday, Cde Chinamasa said they are going to table the amendments for approval by the Politburo and Central Committee.

“We are seeking to introduce a new class of membership; inactive members are those who believe in the party’s ideology and values, but are not interested in day-to-day involvement,” he said.

This model, he added, is presently being used by the African National Congress in South Africa.

The other amendment being pursued relates to Diaspora participation.

“We are seeking to organise Zimbabweans in the Diaspora in the manner that each country will become a district and the branches will be constituted with each city. For instance, in Mozambique, the whole country will become a district and those in Beira will become a branch.”

Meanwhile, the party announced senior staffers who will join the commissariat department.

Cde Kizito Kuchekwa will be director mobilisation and elections; Brigadier-General Ezekiel Zabanyana (Rtd) assumes the role of director administration and conflict management, while Dr Davison Gomo will handle research in the same capacity.
