Cimas Medical Aid has donated US$13 753 to the Cancer Association of Zimbabwe as part of its contribution to the fight against cancer.
The money was raised from the company’s annual iGo half marathon which was held last year in Harare and Bulawayo.
A total of 1 422 people participated in the marathon.
Speaking at the hand-over ceremony, Cimas’ chief marketing officer, Ms Tatenda Madzikanda said the donation highlights the group’s commitment to positively improving the well-being of individuals in the communities it serves.
“The Cancer Association of Zimbabwe and us are now a family and will continue supporting the organisation,” she said.
“As promised, we are handing over all the proceeds that we raised (US$13 753) through the half marathon.”
Cancer Association of Zimbabwe general manager, Ms Junior Mavu said cancer patients and their families are supported through such donations.
“This donation will go a long way in helping the cancer patients and their families.
“Cancer treatment and drugs are expensive, and not every patient is on medical aid,” said Ms Mavu.
