Farmers have generated US$582 million from tobacco deliveries, up from US$555 million in the same period a year ago, as mop-up sales continue.
This year’s tobacco marketing season ended on Wednesday last week.
According to the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB), 191 million kilogrammes of the cash crop had been sold by July 26 at an average price of US$3,04 per kg compared to 199 million kg last year.
The highest price achieved was US$6,80 per kg, while the lowest price was US$0,10.
