The government is conducting a second round of crop assessment, which will determine the actual number of food-insecure households.
Responding to questions from the media during Tuesday’s post-Cabinet briefing, Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Minister Dr Anxious Masuka said the results of the latest crop and livestock assessment will be presented to Cabinet next week.
“The second round of cereals, livestock and fisheries assessment is currently underway, and we expect the results of this (assessment) to be out by April 7.
“This second round of crop and livestock assessment is the assessment that will give us the volume of estimates for the various crops – cereals, tubers, legumes, horticulture and productivity measures for livestock,” said Minister Masuka.
“It is from this assessment that we will know the number of food insecure households.”
