KUTSAGA director and former acting chief executive officer Mr Oswell Mharapara has retired after 29 years of service with the research board.
In a statement, the country’s sole tobacco research institution thanked Mr Mharapara for his service.
“We express our huge appreciation to Mr Mharapara for the immense contribution to the organisation through the various economic phases it has gone through.
“Oswell joined the board on August 1, 1994 as a research officer, and was promoted to senior research officer in 1997,” read part of the statement.
When the board went into commercialisation in 2002, he was appointed projects officer.
“In 2006, he was appointed assistant general manager, the position which was retitled to executive director in 2009.”
Between March to September 2022, he was the acting chief executive officer.
The board has, however, decided to retain him as a consultant, as Kutsaga builds on its new brand and restructures to accommodate an expanded mandate.
Mr Mharapara’s retirement is with effect from September 30, 2023.
