UNLIKE last season when they failed to get a win in their opening three games, Green Fuel FC have hit the ground running this term and their coach Rodwell Dhlakama is predicting “a decent season” for the Chisumbanje side.
‘Boys Dze Nharo’ beat Bulawayo Chiefs 2-1, before drawing 1-1 against Simba Bhora at Wadzanai Stadium in their opening two games.
The team is now targeting another home victory when they engage TelOne at the Green Fuel Arena tomorrow.
The match is one of the six Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) matches lined up tomorrow, to kick-start the Easter holiday football fiesta.
“It is still early days, but so far it is promising to be a decent season by any measure of the imagination,” Dhlakama told Zimpapers Sport on today.
In flying winger, Tinotenda Meke, Dhlakama has an ace up his sleeves.
The former Cranborne Bullets star has settled well in Chisumbanje, and could be the Premiership’s find of the season.
After dazzling the home crowd in the 2-1 win against Bulawayo Chiefs, the 18-year-old Meke provided an assist for Donald Ngoma in the 1-1 draw against Simba Bhora.
Anelka Chivandire and on-fire teenage sensation Washington Mapuwa were on target in the home win against Chiefs.
“So far so good. The preparations have gone on well, and we have no injuries,” Dhlakama said.
In Telone, Green Fuel face a side that has also enjoyed its football in these early days.
The returnees also have four points from two matches after holding ZPC Kariba 2-2 at Nyamhunga before thumping last season’s runners-up Manica Diamonds 3-1 at Bata Stadium.
Tendai Chikuni is in charge of the Gweru-based side, which is making a return to the PSL since 2019.
