GOVERNMENT has dismissed false reports of unfair treatment of teachers posted to Rwanda, and emphasised that the educational skills transfer programme between the two countries was undertaken after careful planning, negotiations and rigorous engagement.

Union leaders, this week, raised false alarm over the condition of service for teachers who were recently deployed to Rwanda.

In a statement, the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare said there is no shred of truth in the baseless utterances regarding the memorandum of understanding (MoU) as submitted by the trade union leaders.

“Government notes with absolute dismay, the irresponsible and unfounded utterances attributed to Mr Tapedza Zhou, the secretary-general of the Education Union of Zimbabwe, Mr Takavafira Zhou, the president of the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ), and Dr Obert Masaraure, the president of Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe, regarding the situation of Zimbabwean educational personnel and other specialists seconded to the Republic of Rwanda.

“Government wishes to inform the public and concerned stakeholders that the educational skills transfer programme between the two sister Republics was undertaken after careful planning, negotiations and rigorous engagement among experts of both countries,” reads part of the statement.

The communique further states that the Rwandan Government magnanimously offered to pay rent for the first three months, with a view of enabling the seconded personnel to easily settle and adjust to the experience in Rwanda.

“Government of Rwanda has also facilitated the acquisition of work permits for all the recruited educational experts and other specialists from Zimbabwe, which guarantees the rights to stay in Rwanda as well as access to financial services,” the statement added.

“This has seen most applying for loans to initiate projects back home”
