YOUNG people must acquire financial literacy skills to successfully set financial goals, plan and manage their wealth.

This came out in a press briefing by the Hospice and Palliative Care Association of Zimbabwe (HOSPAZ), a private voluntary organisation that provides palliative care and services support, as it marked the Global Money Week (GMW) on Monday.

HOSPAZ technical director Mr Shupikai Chisero said the GMW is meant to mould youths that can make sound financial decisions to build a secure future.

“GMW is an annual global initiative raising awareness about the importance of financial literacy so that young people, from an early age, are financially aware, and are gradually acquiring the knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours necessary to make sound financial decisions and ultimately achieve financial well-being and financial resilience,” he said.

“While our main thrust is in palliative care services, under our Bvumbamira Vana Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) project, we are aiming to improve health, safety, education and stability outcomes for orphans and OVCs as we improve economic stability through financial literacy training and business enterprise development.”

Running from March 18 to March 24 under the theme “Protect your money, secure your future”, the GMW will see HOSPAZ joining Aflatoun International (a global organisation that empowers young people through social and financial education) and other partners from over 100 countries on global online platforms in celebrations.

Thirteen live streams will be conducted in English, Arabic, Spanish, Russian and French to connect thousands globally to share insights and initiatives related to Global Money Week and Aflatoun Day 2024.

Influencers and policymakers will also be able to share their insights and initiatives.
