Three daring Nyele villagers who were aiding cross-border smuggling of contraband clothes and shoes have been arrested by police in Plumtree.

The border town is usually used by smugglers.

Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest on Wednesday.

“On May 7, 2022, ZRP Plumtree arrested Frank Mavhima (47), Califonia Moyo (31), and Prince Moyo (25) for smuggling 10 bales of clothes, 1 092 pairs of footwear and one roll of field fence into the country from a neighbouring country,” he said.

“The contraband was seized in a scotch cart at an illegal crossing point along Ramakgwebana River.”

Meanwhile, police in the province also arrested four men who had masqueraded as Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) officials and extorted 200 rand from two travellers who had questionable travelling documents.
