PREMIERSHIP runners-up Chicken Inn have beaten rivals Dynamos FC in the race for highly rated forward Calum English-Brown.
The latest development comes just a few weeks after the Gamecocks won a mini-battle with the Harare giants for second position on the log table.
English-Brown, fondly known as the White Lion, was tipped to sign for DeMbare after meeting with the club’s executive on Monday.
But Chicken Inn swiftly turned the tables in their favour and signed the former WhaWha player on Tuesday afternoon.
The Legends Football Academy product was one of the best players on show during the just-ended 2022/2023 Premier Soccer League season, although he unfortunately missed out on a place on the Soccer Stars calendar.
He has, however, been rewarded for his efforts with a two-year contract at the Gamecocks, who were league champions in 2015.
“I can confirm that the White Lion (English-Brown) is now at Chicken Inn,” Legends Football Academy coach Farai Dhliwayo told The Sunday Mail Online.
“So many clubs wanted English-Brown. He had about eight offers on the table from Premier League clubs.
“That surely makes him one of the most sought-after players,” said Dhliwayo.
Top Premiership sides including Highlanders and Manica Diamonds also wanted the services of the 21-year-old.
A source at Chicken Inn also revealed that the player had been in constant communication with coach Joey Antipas, who has been clear how badly wanted the star.
Dynamos, on their part, are currently coach-less following Tonderai Ndiraya’s departure and risk signing players who might not be in the incoming coach’s plans.
