ZIMBABWE are through to the semi-finals of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers currently underway in Bulawayo.

This follows a 23-run victory over Jersey on Tuesday, a result that saw the Chevrons make it two wins out of two, and secure progress into the semi-finals of the competition.

A half-century from Zimbabwe all-rounder, Sean Williams, propelled the Chevrons to 146 for eight after losing the toss and being put in to bat.

Williams scored 57 off 39 balls during Zimbabwe’s tamed innings, which saw only four other batsmen reach double digit figures.

In Jersey’s response, Ryan Burl’s three for 13 helped Zimbabwe fend off the Islanders’ run chase.

The duo of Tendai Chatara and Blessing Muzarabani chipped in with a wicket apiece, as Jersey finished their allotted 20 overs with 123 for five.

The hosts will now meet the United States of America, the other unbeaten team in their group, with the winner of the encounter expected to finish the group stage of the competition on top.

The two teams are currently tied on four points, with the United States on top due to a superior net run rate.

Jersey and Singapore, the other two teams in the group are yet to register wins in the competition, but there is still plenty of cricket to play before the teams pack their bags and head back home.

The two teams will meet on Thursday; after which they will still have play-off games to take part in.

Chevrons head coach, Dave Houghton, will certainly keep an eye on the other group, where the Netherlands have one foot in the semi-finals after also making it two wins out of two.

The Dutch currently top group B with four points, while the duo of Uganda and Papua New Guinea are tied on two points apiece and are only separated on net run rate.

Hong Kong are the only winless team in the group after suffering back-to-back losses in the first two games.

Action resumes on Thursday, when the Netherlands take on Uganda, while Hong Kong and Papua New Guinea meet in their final matches of group B.

Aside from the top-of-the table clash between the Chevrons and the USA, Singapore and Jersey are also expected to clash on Thursday.
