GOVERNMENT has allowed organised parental visits to boarding schools to resume following the declaration by the World Health Organisation (WHO) that Covid-19 is no longer a public health emergency.

In a circular on Monday, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Mrs Tumisang Thabela said schools will still have to follow Covid-19 protocols to mitigate against communicable diseases.

“In line with the Government position, on June 9, 2023, the Ministry of Health and Child Care issued a circular allowing the lifting of Covid-19 containment measures, which included restriction of both local and foreign travel, home quarantine, vaccination of citizens 12 years and above and screening of travellers.

“In addition, isolation of cases, supervision of burials, disinfection of premises and other standard operating procedures assisted the country in reducing the spread and impact of the pandemic,” she said.

“With immediate effect, heads of schools are allowed to resume the previous practice of organised parental visits to schools.”
