Former England batter Garry Balance is set to officially make his debut for Zimbabwe against Ireland next week.

This follows the 33-year-old opener’s inclusion in the Zimbabwe Chevrons’ 15-man squad for the three-match Twenty20I series against Ireland, which is set to begin on January 12.

The left-handed batter is one of the four changes that has been made to the squad that made history when they qualified for the Super12 stage of the World Cup in Australia last year.

The other three changes also see the inclusion of Tadiwanashe Marumani, Innocent Kaia and Victor Nyauchi, who were reserves to the team that participated at the World Cup.

Among the notable absentees from Ireland series is Zimbabwe talisman and star all-rounder Sikandar Raza, who has been granted a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to play in the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League, while pace bowler Blessing Muzarabani is recovering from a quadriceps injury.

Regis Chakabva, who has since relocated to Australia, and batter Milton Shumba have been left out of the squad.

The T20I matches will be played on January 12, 14 and 15, with all three matches scheduled to start at 1pm local time.

This will be followed by the three-match One-Day International series between the two sides set for January 18, 21 and 23.

All matches will be played at Harare Sports Club.
