THE African Development Bank (AfDB) has said it will continue to support renewable energy projects in Zimbabwe.

Speaking after a recent a three-day business mission to Zimbabwe by a number of its senior officials, AfDB vice president for power, energy, climate and green growth, Dr Kevin Kariuki said:

“We are happy to assist Zimbabwe in implementing key energy reforms to create a vibrant energy sector.”

Dr Kariuki cited the bank’s role in developing the Batoka Gorge Hydro Power project, which is expected to boost the supply of electricity within the wider Southern Africa Development Community region.

The regional financier’s vice president for private sector, infrastructure and industrialisation, Mr Solomon Quaynor, said they are looking to deepen their engagement with the country’s private sector.

“The African Development Bank would like to deepen our work in the private sector overall, and specifically with respect to investments in economic corridor transport and logistics infrastructure,” said Mr Quaynor.

Their visit came on the heels of AfDB president, Dr Akinwumi Adesina’s visit to Zimbabwe last month, in which he held discussions with the Government about clearing the country’s arrears.
