FIFTY solar-powered boreholes are set to be drilled in Buhera ahead of this year’s Independence Day celebrations to ensure access to clean water for all.

Zimbabwe’s 44th Independence Day celebrations will be held in Buhera, Manicaland Province in line with the Second Republic’s commitment of decentralising national events.

The boreholes will be installed under the Presidential Boreholes Scheme, which has so far seen thousands of boreholes being drilled across the country to increase the availability of clean water.

In an interview, Prevail Group International chairperson, Mr Paul Tungwarara whose company was contracted to install the boreholes, said some of the installations have already been completed.

“As Prevail Group International, we are proud to be implementing the Presidential Boreholes Scheme in Buhera, where this year’s national Independence Day celebrations will be held.

“We have been tasked to install 50 boreholes in the district and so far, some of the installations have been completed,” he said.

Mr Tungwarara said the solar-powered boreholes will transform Buhera people’s lives.

“These boreholes will allow communities to set up village business units as espoused by His Excellency, President Mnangagwa.

“These business units will include community gardens, horticulture projects and irrigation schemes, all supported by the boreholes.

“This is particularly important for Buhera as an area that has perennially faced water shortages. This year’s Independence celebrations will therefore have a lasting effect on Buhera.”

Murambinda Growth Point is currently undergoing a massive facelift, while new roads are under construction.

A new stadium is also being constructed in the area.
