ZIMBABWE international defender Lawrence Mhlanga scored the only goal of the match as FC Platinum maintained their position at the summit of the standings with a victory over Chapungu at Mandava yesterday.

His 11th minute goal was all the miners needed to retain a two-point advantage over closest rivals, Chicken Inn.

Yesterday’s win means the miners are now on 31 points while Chapungu remain on 20.

At the final whistle, FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza was happy with the result and hailed his men for a good game despite tinkering with some positional changes for his stars.

“We did well in the first half but the second half was bad. I am happy the boys keep soldiering on.

“There has also been a number of shifts in position but I am happy we keep doing better,” said Mapeza.

Chapungu coach Rodwell Dhlakama felt his men gifted their opponents with maximum points.

“This is worrying because we lost a game we dominated.

“We had an awful start to the game and I must say we gave them an early Christmas present of a goal.

“The second half was better and we created many chances but failed to convert them. I am disappointed and I hope we will rise and start winning again,” said Dhlakama.

Chapungu seem to be losing their steam after a brilliant start to the campaign.
