FROM elegant roora/lobola ceremonies, to massive parties for toddlers, events management is transforming the way people celebrate different aspects of their lives.

Some are still resisting lobola ceremonies that come complete with cakes, catering services, a special African attire inspired dress code, marquee, trendy chairs and even a PA system — but that is where local culture is going.

Others, particularly those that grew up in large families, still ignore their kids’ birthdays, graduation parties and other events based on their own upbringing and experiences. But others have embraced the changing times.

For those parents and guardians that do not mind going overboard to spoil their tots on their special days, or themselves at anniversary parties and other celebrations, stylist and event coordinator Monicah Mashavave has all the answers.

Mashavave, a former model, has become one of the most sought-after party organisers in Zimbabwe. Although she has evolved to be the party organiser of choice for all ages, Mashavave’s claim to fame was through Tiny Tots World Zimbabwe.

“When I entered the events industry, it was just for kids’ events but I have transformed the company to cater for adults as well,” said Mashavave, who put together Bona Mugabe’s son’s birthday. Mashavave said she was motivated into organising kids’ events by her family who never saw the importance of children’s birthday parties.

“Growing up in a big family, we never had those fancy parties. That’s when I told myself that I wanted to make a difference. Besides, I love kids,” she said.

She added: “From kids’ events we have grown to include corporate events as we now cater for everyone including weddings. We have different packages so people can choose a package they can afford,” she said.

She is said to be the first person to introduce the trendy lobola ceremonies in Zimbabwe. She told The Sunday Mail Society that the response has been overwhelming as most people started following her style.

Recently the party organiser decorated a unique Valentine’s Day present, the latest Mercedes-Benz, which trended on social media. Mashavave said her business is growing as it caters for everyone, adding business was brisk despite tight                                                                                                  pockets.

A mother of two, the former beauty queen holds an honours degree in sociology and gender studies and a diploma in education.  She is studying towards attaining a master’s in project planning and management.
