PATRICK KHUMBULA still loves Dynamos, even though he is banging in the goals for Chapungu.

Khumbula yesterday scored on his Chapungu debut as the Airmen drew with WhaWha in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League tie at Ascot Stadium yesterday.

He joined Chapungu from DeMbare midweek, and needed only six minutes to make his mark at his new side as he drilled home a Tineyi Chitora cross to give the home side the lead.

However, that advantage lasted just three minutes as William Ngonya put the ball past his own ‘keeper.

Khumbula, who moved despite DeMbare’s late attempts to hold on to him, was a happy man despite the draw.

“I am excited to have scored on debut. I left Dynamos to get game time and to be honest I still love the team. I am now getting game time and I hope goals will come as I am still dreaming of going back to the defending champions” he said.

The former Dynamos striker could have scored a hat-trick but was denied by the brilliance of Phillip Nhete, who saved two of his close range efforts.

WhaWha head coach Luke Petros welcomed the point but bemoaned his team’s failure to sign Khumbula.

“I am happy that we managed to collect a point. We are fighting relegation so a point away from home is very vital,” he said. “We expected to sign Khumbula but he was snapped up by Chapungu. We also lost out on Evans (Chikwaikwai), who chose to remain with his team. We are going to work with what we have and our aim is to survive.”

Chapungu coach John Nyikadzino was also content: “I am satisfied with a draw. It was a derby match and derbies are very tricky,” he said.
