JEHOVAH’s Witnesses Zimbabwe will from July 31 host a series of three-day countrywide conventions over ten weeks.

The programme of 39 power-packed conventions will be at 22 venues under the theme “Imitate Jesus”, and will be conducted in six national languages.

This mega series comes exactly a year after the Witnesses held their first international convention in Zimbabwe in August 2014, which saw thousands of local worshippers congregating with over 5 000 of their brethren from Brazil, Germany, the United States and other countries.

Conventions spokesperson Mr Effort Mugabe said the “Imitate Jesus” programme would be conducted in sign language, Ndebele, Shona, English, Tonga and Sw ahili.

“The conventions will examine Jesus’ life as outlined in the Bible and emphasise how all — regardless of their background, lifestyle or religion — can benefit in practical ways from His example and teachings.

“Jesus is the founder of Christianity, is widely considered as one of the most influential and significant men who ever lived. As Christians, a core belief of Jehovah’s witnesses is that Jesus lived his life as a model for us to follow.

“A highlight of the programme will be the keynote address on (July 31) Friday morning entitled ‘Concealed in Him are all the treasures of wisdom’,” said Mr Mugabe.

Mr Mugabe said the conventions were open to all.

The convention series ends on October 11, and in addition to the services an estimated 2 500 congregates will meet each weekend at the Harare Assembly Hall for a special Bible-based programme.

“There is no admission fee.

‘‘These conventions by Jehovah’s Witnesses are supported by voluntary donations,” added Mr Mugabe.

With more than 43 000 congregates in the Jehovah’s Witnesses Zimbabwe, the 10-week series of conventions promises to be a mega religious spectacle.
