AT least 150 children from across the country successfully underwent cleft lip surgeries last weekend, under an initiative bankrolled by Innscor Africa Limited.

The two-day surgery camp that ended yesterday was carried out by the Global Cleft Lip and Cranio Foundation in partnership with the Government at the Sally Mugabe Children’s Hospital in Harare.

Innscor Africa Limited representative Dr Chipo Ndudzo described the initiative as a golden opportunity to restore the smiles and confidence of the children and their families.

“Innscor Africa Limited has partnered with Global Cleft Lip and Cranio Foundation, Ministry of Health and Sally Mugabe Children’s Hospital to transform the lives of over 150 children.”

She said out of the cleft babies who were screened, the majority qualified for surgery and underwent the operation.

“Innscor Africa Limited is confident that they will recover well and enjoy their new lives, we are proud to be the leader of this amazing initiative and we wish all the participants a successful and speedy recovery,” she said.

She emphasised the company’s commitment to making a positive difference in the world and assured ongoing support for these life-changing camps in the future.

“Innscor Africa Limited is immensely grateful to the doctors, nurses and support staff who have dedicated their time, skills and compassion to this initiative. They are the true heroes who make these miracles possible,” she said.

Additionally, as part of their commitment to the cause, Innscor Africa Limited provided food for 150 individuals, including medical staff, caregivers, and the children involved in the initiative.

Innscor Africa Limited has a long history of supporting cleft lip and palate surgeries. Last year the company sponsored two camps in July and August, bringing joy to dozens of children aged between 9 months and 19 years old. A cleft lip is a treatable birth defect that occurs when tissues that form the upper lip don’t join together completely before birth, resulting in an opening or gap in the upper lip.
