If you can’t beat them, join them: Mukandi

DYNAMOS midfielder Dominic Mukandi says he crossed the great divide from Caps United to get a taste of winning the big Harare derby.
Makepekepe have played second fiddle to DeMbare over the past six years and Mukandi, who starred in the last derby for the Green Machine, reckons the trend will continue as the two sides renew their rivalry at Rufaro this afternoon.

“The wise say ‘if you can’t beat them then join them’ and nothing is going to change on Sunday,” said the midfielder soon after his team’s final workout at the match venue on Friday.

“This is a match I was waiting for ever since the season started and it’s the same with my teammates. You can clearly see that there is tension at training because we all want to play this match.”

Mukandi revealed that the week preceding the derby saw him being heckled by some Makepekepe fans.
“In town people are booing me and I know even on match day they will boo me but my game has improved now and I will show them,” he said.

“It’s that booing that is pushing me to do well and I will show them the other side of my game which they didn’t know.“I have shared with my teammates all the information I have about Caps United. Nothing is going to change on Sunday; the team that has been winning all this while will continue winning.

“If I manage to score I will definitely celebrate and will do so near that corner (pointing to the City end that usually house Caps United fans) because Dynamos has always been my home and even my junior football I played here at Dynamos,” said Mukandi.
