Tendai Munjodzi  : St John’s High Chikwaka

Due to the spirit I had fired up by unquenchable faith in my mission l realised l had only one difference to make and become a parliamentarian. MAO TSE-TUNG once said “A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step”.  Every giant and history changer had to go through the thick and thin, so as to reach the top and become a champion of all times and that is my journey of becoming a junior parliamentarian. In form 3 that’s 2014, I felt as if the world had rejected me, l had the desire to campaign to be a parliamentarian but unfortunately it was my senior Brendon Senzere who had to campaign that time but time made me realise that it was a pedestrian by nature.

This then gave me more passion not only to prepare but to over prepare myself to be an A grade public speaker when my time came.

Senzere campaigned and became number 2 that’s in 2014 and l was in form 4 bearing in conscience that l had to pass my exams but my sub-conscience kept building up my spirit and passion to become a member of the Junior Parliament. In 2015 Varaidzo

Sosa went for the JP campaigns and she became number 3. I took note of the gaps by my predecessors and had to polish them.

Then l wrote my National Exams and passed and to become a Lower 6 which gave me the second chance to campaign and make it into the Junior Parly.

Albert Einstein said “We cannot solve the same problem using the same method” then bang l realised that my time had come to shine but there was a condition that l had to polish up, fill in the gaps which were left out by Brandon and Varaidzo. I was then inspired.

Due to the spirit I had fired up by unquenchable faith in my mission l realised l had only one difference to make and become a parliamentarian. The locals where now around the corner when l had to campaign at school with the same people from school to see who was going to represent St John’s Chikwaka at the Elections. This was the hardest time of all because everyone by the school new the other’s weakness and had to attack that weakness to represent the school. To cut the local elections that happened at school short; l only remembered l was left with one contestant Mitchel Chirisa who was in Form 3 and the others were eliminated but then because of the help of my subordinates that’s Salaz (Simbarashe Masarakufa), Chingaz, Dhafu,

Muteyaunga and Douglas that managed to convince the school to vote for me to represent the school, l won. Given the theme of the year which was “Conflicts and Crisis in Africa, protecting all children rights’’ l gave a well prepared speech and had to represent the school.

The elections were held at Mwanza Secondary and were done with 10 schools present in Goromonzi North Constituency among the others there was St Dominics and St Ignatius only to mention a few. I had to campaign to the people before l gave them a speech and this went well. Candidates gave their speeches and l admit they were Awesome but the fortune and fame had come my way and then my turn came and l had to deliver my speech, which was superb.

The time came when the results were to be announced and by that time l was shivering like the reeds of Msisippi river in winter because l was afraid of becoming number two or three or even worse but the results were announced to number two realising that my name wasn’t called yet. The difference was astonishing with number two having 10 votes and became number one with 21 votes. Thanks to the Almighty l had finally made it into parly. It felt like a dream.

After this I went for Governorship which was won by Tinaye who is the president and I became the Minister of Defence.

There were four girls and one boy in the top five, this was a change in history. I would like to thank Mrs Chidiya, Mr Chapinduka my roommate Covenant Hatendi and Carlton Chibebe, my parents for the support and not forgetting Toddy Chiriseri who worked day in day out to make sure that this would be a success.

This is a small journey but before l finish l leave you with a quote “ A small body of determined spirits fired up by unquenchable faith in their mission can alter the course of history’’ So my advice to you all is don’t let anyone pull you down. For you to successfully pursue excellence all you have to do is Dream, Believe and Achieve.
