The all-male group has its roots in the Seventh Day Adventist church.

It has performed in the United States of America, Australia and Canada, among other countries. While the group had gone silent on the local scene, music director Mr Mandikudza Sithole said the star was shining even brighter for them outside the country and plans were to capture the local market as well.

The group’s latest tour was in Malawi where it made its debut in the city of Lilongwe.

“The experience was amazing and we managed to pull an impressive crowd. We are so excited. We have a number of tours lined up and we are busy preparing for them.

“So far we have toured almost every Southern African country and we are planning to penetrate East Africa. Already we have hosted concerts in Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda and the response was overwhelming.

“It is really amazing when audiences in foreign countries sang along to our Shona songs. ln Rwanda for example, people would sing along. This shows that our ministry is growing,” Mr Sithole said enthusiastically.

However, Mr Sithole said that penetrating West Africa was not smooth sailing, especially considering the lack of funds.

Two of Shower Power’s experienced members recently left for the United States of America, thereby leaving the group short-staffed.

“To cover the gap we have brought in Charles Mtombeni, Owen Marowa, Lawrance Chembere and Prince Chimwede. This will also ensure that the generation gap is also dealt with,” added Mr Sithole.

He however said that the challenges will not deter the group from spreading the gospel.

He said that the music outfit is in the music industry to spread the gospel, not to make money.

Shower Power is currently working on its seventh album, which they say will be launched this year.

“Our last album was launched in 2012. Ever since, we have been busy with tours but an album is coming soon,” Mr Sithole reiterated.

The group usually hosts two major concerts annually — The Power of Praise and Thanks Giving in April and December respectively.

Shower Power was formed in 1992 by Venus Khumalo and Simba Nyawiri who are now based in the USA.

The group has six albums under its belt, these are ‘Shower Power Experience’, ‘Time has not run out’, ‘Spirit of God’, ‘Today’, ‘Holy Life’ and ‘Shower Power Hymns’
