THERE is a wide range of ghostly phenomena out there, yet there is no common explanation for any of it.
The mysterious vehicles that do not seem to be firmly anchored within the world as we know it are a bizarre type of phantom encounter.
They range from outright ghostly apparitions to something that straddles the line between the supernatural and Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs).
From the 1970s up to the late 1990s, there have been reports of sightings of supposed ghostly vehicles in Zimbabwe.
One particular place that has featured prominently with regards to suspected vehicle ghost sightings is a place called 10 Miles, along the Harare-Wedza highway.
Stories have been told of how locals who sought transport at this junction during odd hours often got entangled in the mystical world.
People seeking transport during the early morning hours would see a bus approaching and flag it down.
The bus would stop. The bus’ door would be opened and passengers would enter and take their seats.
The bus would take off “normally”, while passengers fell into a deep slumber. Urban legend has it that when passengers finally woke up from the sleep, they would be horrified to see themselves seated exactly where they would have been before the “bus” arrived.
More strange reports of weird tinted cars in Domboshava have been made.
These vehicles are said to terrorise a stretch of desolate dust road in this area. The spooky cars are mostly said to be black and of a very old fashioned make.
However, they have the speed, handling and capabilities of something far more advanced.
While drivers are usually not seen in the vehicles, which seem to be self-driven, other reports claim that fog-like images have been seen behind the wheel.
And in August of 1975, two men driving along a remote road near Ngezi River saw a large vehicle.
At first, they mistook it for a bus but on closer inspection, it dawned on them that this was not a normal bus as it had large domed windows and pillars within it. Inside the vehicle were two humanoid figures, whose features were indistinct due to a blinding white light emanating from within.
The two witnesses say the “bus” turned a corner and then just vanished into thin air. Ghostly phenomena certainly run the full range of the weird world and it all remains largely unexplained.
But can vehicles turn into spectral anomalies that haunt the living?
How can this be? What could these vehicles be? One possible explanation could be that some of these are glimpses of inter-dimensional beings, somehow pushing over into our reality for a brief time, only to vanish back into theirs.
Is it possible that the ghosts were actually surprised to encounter humans in the same way that those who saw them were surprised to see them?
Maybe they were not even the ones crossing over? Maybe the humans are the ones crossing over into their reality?
It remains to be seen.
