Get your act straight Enzo

ONE thing for certain is that only Enzo Ishall, and God, of course, know exactly what is happening in his mind.

However, the lad needs to get his act together. Clearly, Enzo does not have plans to stop producing music, at least not anytime soon. Granted, the musician might be going through some rough patch, but that is no justification for his recent action(s).

This is not the first time he threatened to quit music. He has done so before, and would probably do so again in the near future as the “stunt” seems to be yielding perfect results for the seemingly cunning musician.

“For now, all I can say is that since I got the help that I needed, it is only fair that I give my fans what they have asked for, that is my return,” Enzo told our sister paper The Herald last week.

“I am just fulfilling some obligations with my fans, not that I am back in the studio and that music is my full-time profession — no, it is not. I am now centred on business and I am happy that I am financially and mentally stable. I thank those who helped me.”

When Enzo dropped the bombshell on quitting music last month, just before releasing “Ehee”, his close associates quickly hinted it was a stunt.

“I don’t think he is going to stop singing anytime soon. I might not tell you what exactly is going on in his mind, but what I know for a fact is that he has some fine projects that he is currently working on.

“ . . . it happens a lot with musicians. When they face challenges, they assume quitting the trade is the answer. Fortunately, not all of them rush to make a public announcement, otherwise ma fans aigara akapinda busy (otherwise fans would always be in trouble),” said a source who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Our efforts to get to the bottom of the issue were in vain. Enzo spiritedly avoided interviews with The Sunday Mail Society.

“I don’t want to discuss that matter!” Enzo said.

Enter the new single “Zuva Risingasvike”.

The track is about a week old and signals the singer’s return from his “mini-retirement”.

Carefully listening to the song, one is bound to get answers.

“ . . . changu ndechekuvhura pasingavhurike, handitsauke nzira, handirasike,” Enzo sings in the song, as he seemingly suggests he has everything worked out. Just to be clear, we are not here to judge the musician.  We do appreciate his predicament and need for help, if he indeed this was not a gimmick.

Likewise, we thank people that have come through for him. That said, it is important that in the future he does not make such hurried and highly emotional decisions.

We do not want him to behave like guzzlers that always quit alcohol each time they suffer from a serious hangover. Musicians are known to pull all sorts of stunts to boost sales or waning careers.

Remember Leonard Zhakata’s “Gomba Remarara”? Reactions by some artistes and fans to the news of his return can be testimony.

“Usajairire mafanzi iwe, wanyanya tucontroversy twemastanzi. Don’t get me wrong, I respect the brother — very creative with his craft, but he had us worried for what? (sic),” queried Quonfuzed.

“So, he has managed to get his life back into the groove, realise that his fans are important, come out retirement, record and release a new song/video in less than a month? Interesting!” commented Edith Mutero.

Enzo needs to take a leaf from some of our yesteryear greats. Music is not like your formal employment whereby one is expected to officially resign or retire when they plan on leaving.

We have living legends like Patrick Mukwamba of “Wapenga Nayo Bonus” fame that simply go under when things are not going their way and resurface when the storm is over.

We also have Hosea Chipanga and Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave. Planning to quit is a bit extreme, unless, of course, it is part of a strategy to an end-game.

Imagine what would become of fans if every one of their stars threatened to quit each time they went through a rocky patch?

Help should be sought and there are proper channels to follow.
