HARARE-based filmmaker Tamuka “NAXO Films” Mapembure has acquired state-of-the-art equipment from China, which he hopes will improve the quality and appeal of his work.

With the new tools, he believes he now has the confidence to engage regional and international markets.

The artiste has produced several films and music videos over the years and has worked with top local performers.

“In Zimbabwe, I have worked with many prominent artistes, among them Suluman Chimbetu, Jah Prayzah, Andy Muridzo and Mark Ngwazi,” he said.

“I now have a lot of experience and wish to work with foreign stars. I have been investing in securing modern tools, which will make it easy for me to make the grade on the international platform.”

NAXO Films currently employs 10 professionals, including technicians and camerapersons.

Their work has a massive following on social media platforms.

“We are a big brand and employ a number of well-trained professionals.

“I believe we have the capacity to be one of the biggest filmmakers in the country. Likewise, we can make a big impression beyond borders with the right support.”

The aspiring filmmaker is receiving tremendous support from businessman Lawrence Nyabanga.

“We have splashed thousands of United States dollars in helping him acquire new equipment, which includes drones. We want to make his dream come true,” said Nyabanga.

“It is not like we have too much money. But, everyone should play a part in supporting our arts industry. Our productions should match world-class standards if we want to attract foreign artistes.

“NAXO Films should not only be there for profits.

“We also want them to give back to the community, helping talented artistes that cannot pay recording fees for studio or video shooting.”

Tamuka has already entered into a working arrangement with Sha Sha and DJ Maphorisa from South Africa.

He will also be working on a project with Diamond Platnumz from Tanzania for his upcoming video collaboration with a Zimbabwean artiste, Poptain.

“I can confirm now that we are in the process of shooting a video for Sha Sha and DJ Maphorisa from South Africa. Diamond Platnumz is also in the mix. We are likely going to be done filming in early March,” said Tamuka.

He said Zimbabwe has a lot of talent that needs to be nurtured.

“It’s possible for us to compete effectively on the globe. The only challenge most artistes face is access to resources and opportunities.

“Thus, it is the duty of every person that has made it in life to support those that are still struggling. Unity of purpose is important if we want this industry to grow.”
