SUNGURA maestro Alick “Baba Sharo” Macheso will be the star attraction during independence celebrations to be held in Mount Darwin.

The celebrations, which will run under the theme “Zim@43Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo/Ilizwe Lakhiwa Ngabanikazi Balo”, will be held in the Mashonaland Central town on April 17 and 18.

On the first day, the usually sleepy town will wake up to the music of Zimdancehall sensation Freeman; Kosilati Sibaya; and hip-hop artistes Voltz JT and Leo Magoz; among others. The youthful musicians will perform at the Children’s Party, which will be held at Pfura Stadium.

Close to 1 500 children, who will be drawn from the country’s 10 provinces, are set to be mesmerised by the artistes.

“. . . learners are being mobilised from all provinces for the Children’s Party, as well as providing entertainment and mass displays.

An additional 400 children will be drawn from the districts in the hosting province, bringing the total to 1 500 children,” said Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa during a post-Cabinet briefing in Harare on Tuesday.

Apart from soaking themselves in music, the children will be providing entertainment and mass displays.

On Independence Day, Macheso and Paradzai Mesi will then take over the stage to provide entertainment for the main Uhuru celebrations.

In the evening, a musical gala featuring several artistes from across genres and all corners of the country will be held at Pfura Stadium.
