The Feast of Trumpets began on the modern day of October 1 which was the first day of Tisri or Ethanim in the Jewish calendar
Description
The feast of Trumpets is the first part of a three part festival called the feast of the Seventh Month – Tabernacles.
The three parts are: Trumpets, Day of Atonement (Lev 23:26-32) and Tabernacles (Lev 23:33-44)
This feast was the day that the trumpets sounded all over Israel calling the people to begin preparations for the Day of Atonement, which was the day of national cleansing.
Israel blew trumpets on the first day of every month signalling the arrival of the new month.
But this day had a special “joyful” sound about it.
It is called in (Daniel 8:13-14) the day of the cleansing of the sanctuary.
It was a house-keeping call for the Temple and the houses of Israel to begin to clear the way for the day of Atonement by cleaning homes.
Overview
Israel used trumpets on many occasions.
They used two types: ram’s horn (Exodus19:16-19) and trumpets of silver (Numbers 10: 2-9, 29:1).
Silver trumpets were used in the feast of blowing trumpets because “silver” was a type of redemption and the Day of Atonement was a day of Redemption.
1. Trumpets were used for many reasons (Numbers 10:1-10).
Calling assemblies
Journeying of the camp
Calling of the princes
Sounding alarms
War or enemy oppression
Days of gladness
Solemn assemblies
The beginning of months
For offerings and sacrifices
It is also used for anointing kings (II Kings 9:13) and dedication for the temple (II Chronicles 5:11-14) used in the year of Jubilee (Leviticus 25) and the judgments of God (Revelations 8:1-9)
2. This day marked the New Year (civil year) (Numbers 29:1)
3. It called for resting on the Sabbath with “no servile work” to be done (Leviticus 23:23-25)
4. It was done in the seventh month (the number of perfection; fullness) (Leviticus 23:24)
5. To signal to Israel that the feast of feasts had begun and the Day of Atonement was approaching.
