Coping with stress after O-Level exams

THE journey to completing any academic programme is a roller coaster for most learners.

Some shed a tear or two, while others are filled with joy while pondering their next move.

An Ordinary Level certificate is the first significant qualification that a learner gets in high school.

As much as most people will be happy completing this level, a lot of uncertainty awaits them.

The anxiety that comes with trying to figure out what to do next with your life could be more stressful than the actual exams.

The mere thought of  “what to do next” can be troubling.

I feel the pressure of life after writing O-Level exams is often overlooked. However, it is real and requires attention.

There is a lot at stake during this period.

One is worried about the possible combination of subjects to pick at Advanced Level.

Others will have to decide whether to enrol with a college or go to work.

The options become a bit challenging for those who fail.

But for some, life simply flows smoothly.

There is no straight answer to the challenges that one goes through after writing O-Level exams.

Many learners believe enrolling for “A” Level is the only guarantee to success in life, which is not the case.

There are many options to take. One just needs to have a clear idea of what they wish to achieve and how to do so.

Yes, “A” Level is another important milestone on the academic ladder, but tertiary/vocational institutions offer other options.

To ensure you will not have any regrets afterwards, consider your strengths and weaknesses and, above all, your passion.

Seek advice from career or college counsellors.

Never allow yourself to feel stupid if you find yourself stuck when it comes to making the right choice.

In the end, you have to make the choice for yourself and it has to be right.

Therefore, you need to weigh your options carefully.

Above all, do not be afraid of asking for help.
