THE Northern Region Women’s Soccer League (NRWSL) will return this month with a pre-season tournament at Ellis Robins School on April 13.

League matches will commence the following week.

“Northern Region Women Soccer League would like to notify its members and valued stakeholders of the season opening tournament scheduled for Saturday April 13 at Ellis Robins High School.

“All clubs affiliated to the league will be expected to take part.

“The tournament comes as a predecessor of the 2024 league season which commences the following week. League fixtures will be released soon,” read a statement from the league on Friday.

The teams participating in the pre-season tournament include Ngezi Queens, Black Rhinos Queens, Sodbury Spiders, Star Queens, Harare City Queens, Dynamos Queens, Cyclone Queens, Yadah Queens and University of Zimbabwe.

More importantly, the tournament will provide a blueprint for the NRWSL 2024 football season, which will see matches played at a centralised venue.

Ellis Robins School has provided five football pitches for the northern region this season, while other matches will be at the University of Zimbabwe.

This comes after Dzivarasekwa Stadium, Harare High School grounds and Hippodrome Stadium, the homes of Harare Queens, Dynamos Queens and Sodbury Spiders, respectively, were deemed unfit to host matches.

Meanwhile, the league has welcomed the arrival of new administrator Orphah Ruzvidzo (38), who started work on April 1.

“Northern Region Women Soccer League is pleased to announce the appointment of Orphah Ruzvidzo to the position of NRWSL administrator effective April 1, 2024.

“Ruzvidzo holds a BA Honours in Philosophy and Humanities, and a Master’s degree in Business Administration.

“His roles will include the running of the administrative affairs of the league, that is, the log drafting, statistics, policy implementation, handling of administrative duties and facilitating periodic training for coaches and referees. We would like to wish the new administrator a successful tenure and hope that he serves the league to the best of his capabilities,” went on the statement.

The new NRWSL administrator had a stint in teaching, where he was employed at St Paul’s Musami, St Peter’s Mbare and Kasisi Orphanage in Zambia.

While teaching in Musami, he ventured into coaching and earned a BA Honours in Philosophy and Humanities while at Arrupe College, and later attained a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the Zimbabwe Open University (2017-2019).
